中国加油 – China Stay Strong
中国加油 – China Stay Strong is a small series of illustrations made after the outbreak of Coronavirus in early 2020. Not focusing on the virus or drama itself but on the changes in the daily life of those who are living in China during this time.
As soon as I modified my own illustration, the icon that represents my face, to put on a mask, the idea started to become clearer and clearer – try and communicate some hope and strength while analyzing the changes in the normal life of the peoples of the middle kingdom. Inspired by many references from old-school Chinese printed advertisement, government propaganda, the 70’s French TV show named Thalassa, work signaling, the iconography and color of roadsigns and packaging using monochrome as the leitmotif. All the old visual communication that caught my eye and inspire me every day.
As a very personal project, some of the illustrations expanded into small stories, composed of several images, some serve as stand-alone icons of contemporary China.
